Access types, explained

Toronto tennis courts come in a handful of access flavours. Knowing the difference is the difference between an open gate, a locked fence, and a $70 indoor hour.

Public

Free walk-up. Seasonal.

Commercial

Pay by the hour. Winter’s network.

Public — free walk-up

City parks. No fee, no membership, first-come, first-served.

  • Mid-April through October. Nets down in winter.
  • Trinity Bellwoods, Ramsden, High Park, Cedarvale, Eglinton Flats.

Public — reservable

Still City courts. A permit can lock the hour.

  • Book via the City listing on the venue page.
  • Use this when a weekend walk-up will be a zoo.

  • Usually weekend mornings/afternoons + holidays.
  • Beaches, Sir Winston Churchill, Howard Park, Rosedale.

TDSB / TCDSB. Sometimes open after hours, sometimes fenced.

  • Independent schools (UCC, Crescent, Havergal) are private.
  • Have a public park as backup.

Commercial — pay to play

  • Peak indoor $40–$100 / court.
